There really isn’t a better time of year than right now to be wearing everything black. As Halloween approaches, I’ve been trying more creative makeup looks and colour combinations and I’m having so much fun with it! I am always drawn to black pieces for my wardrobe as it’s safe and easy to pair, but I’ve definitely never ventured enough to try black lips before now. I’m really not certain why I even decided to buy this true black lipstick, but I’ve been having some fun exploring how to use it!
When it comes to using a black lipstick on my light skin, the lips are entirely the focal point. I find it’s important to balance the lipstick without going to heavy but that’s just my style. Bold eyes and bold lips can look awesome too!
In this look I’m using Colourpop Lippie Stix in Bull Chic which is a flat matte colour. The Colourpop matte Lippie Stix in my opinion are more of a satin finish, and I quite like that for these bold colours. The slight sheen makes it appear less harsh and is way more forgiving! I’ve paired this daring lip with a crisp black wing on the outer corner using Ciaté London Fierce Flicks Eyeliner. This full size product came in my ipsy bag this month and I have been so impressed by it’s opacity and ease of use. I smudged it out on the centre of the lid using Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Perversion to soften the look because I prefer my makeup to look a little undone. I think the smudgy liner has this effortless style that elevates a very dramatic look and it seamlessly blends into the inner corner this way as well! Definitely a different kind of effect, but one I think I want to try more often. It’s all about texture even though the shades are the same!
My original intention with this look was definitely to keep it all matte and black, but at the last minute I opted to bring some contrast and colour in with Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Telepathy, a green-gold metallic shadow that looks SO cool with black, I’ve used it here for a softer look as well. I think this addition elevates the whole look, but it isn’t actually necessary at all, I just decided to use it for a fun twist! A frosty mint or duochrome purple would look equally as amazing too!
I think this is a great look to wear over Halloween weekend, so I’ll likely be replicating it again then or trying out a new pairing with black lips. How would you wear this lipstick?
I’ve posted a close up and another shot of this look on my instagram because I’m obsessing over it!
What do you think about this bold look?
