Beauty
I was craving some more eyeshadow colours to play with (although I don’t need any more) so opted for Wet n Wild Silent Treatment Eyeshadow Trio which is still neutral shades like I’m used to, but it’s a little more interesting than opting for browns and beiges. These colours are so spring-like in my opinion and the quality is amazing! Even though my skin has not gotten any better, I’ve been opting for lighter bases. I just don’t have much interest in attempting to cover everything up anymore. L’Oreal True Match Mineral Pressed Powder is a great way to boost up my coverage just a tad more and it locks whatever light base in place. This colour is perfect for me too (I wear Light Ivory)! It seems I’m all about spring makeup at the moment, but when it comes to nails I’m still on the fall/winter trends. I replaced my last black polish with Sinful Colors Professional Nail Color in Black on Black which is a really pure black with great lasting power. Plus it retails for only $2.99, so I can’t complain!

Life
I used some of my Christmas money to order the sunglasses I’ve been craving for a long time. I’d been eyeing up the Ray Ban Clubmasters for nearly a year now. I’m so happy to now have them in my life! We don’t get much sunshine here lately, although I have been wearing them at just about any opportunity. I know I’ll get tons of wear out of them come the warmer months, I think the shape is classic, and will go with everything. Lorde Pure Heroine has been on repeat. Like literally. I’ve been listening to it in the car, in other friends’s cars, when I’m getting ready and when I come home from a night out. I’m not exaggerating when I say I’m obsessed. I know I’m late to the party, but I’m so glad I joined! Something kind of different for me is So Delicious Original Coconut Milk for Coffee, as I’m an almond milk or black coffee kind of girl. I wanted to mix things up and try something new, and I was actually really impressed by this. My mom loves having 2% milk in her coffees, but she says this tastes really similar. It is a much creamier milk-alternative, if you’re like me and try to limit your dairy intake. I likely won’t repurchase it soon as I do love my almond milk, but I’m enjoying it while it’s in my life!

I’ve fallen back in love with Instagram recently. I still don’t post that often (these are all I’ve posted in the month of February so far), but I’ve been finding myself checking my feed a few times a day, which was unlike me even a couple months back.

I also have watched this video a far too many times over the last few weeks. I may not be a writer, but Ira Glass’ words are relevant to all of us who consider ourselves creative individuals.

What have you been loving lately?

Since I’ve only recently taken the plunge and decided to wear red lips out in public, this is not the most curated list of red lippies, but they are 2 that I have really fallen in love with. A few months ago I decided I really wanted to give red lipsticks a shot because they look so good on other women. I want to try more reds now because I do really enjoy the way a bright red lip makes me feel. The two that I really am loving at the moment are products that have gotten a lot of hype (and rightly so).

I can’t even describe how amazing Rimmel Apocalips Lip Laquer in Big Bang really is. I love the colour, application, formula and lasting-power of this lippie. The colour is so stunning and it lasts so well. Even as it wears, the colour is vibrant and non-drying. I think everyone should give this a chance. It doesn’t break the bank, and it’s super easy to get your hands on, so just give it a try. Seriously, I don’t think it is even possible to regret it. The whole line is great from what I’ve tried, but this pure red was a stand out for me.

After seeing Chelsea talk so often about this entire line of lip pencils, I had to give them a try. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dragon Girl is the one I opted for, which is described as a “vibrant siren red”, but I think as having a relatively blue undertone. Not too much, but it is detectable. The finish of this is so lovely and it lasts through every and everything. I want to get more colours from this line, but $30 is A LOT for one single lip product. It is versatile though as it can be layered for a really bold look or sheered out using the fingers for a tint (and a balm can be applie on top to sheer out even more).

I’ve been thinking that MAC Russian Red MAY just have to be my next red lip product. I can’t stop thinking about it. As my birthday is quickly approaching (I’ll be 22 on the 19th of this month) I may pick it up for myself as a little treat, since I don’t have any other major plans.

Have you tried these lippies? Are there any similar reds or formulas you would suggest for me?

I wandered into Sephora thinking I’d look around for a little while and maybe grab a mini at the checkout along with my VIB Birthday gift. I wasn’t expecting to really pick anything substantial up as I’m really trying to save some cash. Oops. But when this little gift set caught my eye, it just had to be mine. The was no option to walk away. I could not leave without the Sephora Favorites Give Me Some Lip Lip Sampler ($30).

Swatches in order of photo above: Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment /  Laura Mercier Bare Pink Lip Glace / Buxom Full-On Lip Polish in Dolly / Bite Beauty Rhubarb High Pigment Pencil / NARS Turkish Delight Lip Gloss / Tarte LipSurgence Glitzy Lip Lustre (full size)

Since it’s rare that I finish a full sized product, these gift sets are honestly such a great option for me. I still probably won’t finish everything, but I feel a little less guilty.
There is one full size item (which is priced at $29 on it’s own). The rest are minis, but they are still really generous – great for travel and for my pencil case or purse – so it is worth the price, hands down.  The best thing about these sets is you get to try new things without breaking the bank and I always manage to be amazed by most of the products! The only downside (hardly a downside) is that there are mostly nude and natural pink colours so I won’t be playing with new colours, just textures. That is not a problem for me though, I’ll still be getting a lot of wear out of these.

Also, I would just like to apologize for 1 the quality of my swatch (I could not get this right) and 2 my pale, PALE, TRANSPARENT arm.

Will you be picking up this amazing set? Have you tried any of the products in here?

Although I would say I have combination/acne prone skin, sometimes I experience extremely dry skin when the weather fluctuates as we work out way into the colder months. I get really sensitive and irritated around the chin and cheeks, and my average skin care regime does not suffice. I’ve found the perfect products for an overnight hydration. This is a supereasy routine to do after a cleansing (I use the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm especially when my skin is dry).

After cleansing, I start off with the Clarins Extra Comfort Toning Lotion which hydrates and soothes. Then right after I put on the Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask. Some other bloggers have said you should put this on in a thick layer, but I originally tried it like that and found I woke up feeling greasy. I have found that warming it up between the fingers then working it into the skin like a traditional moisturizer makes it hydrate my dry patches and bring them to feel normal.
I also love using my Nuxe Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Eye Cream to boost hydration under the eyes while I’m at it!

At the moment, I need makeup that is going to last for long days. Some days I need it to last for14 hours straight, and a base that budges just won’t do. This product combo is not perfect, but it has been doing the trick quite well. I don’t feel greasy or cakey and I love that it doesn’t feel too heavy.
I find that layering is the key to a long-lasting, flawless face. Just be careful not too put too much product on!
I begin my foundation routine by applying Smashbox Photofinish Foundation Primer Light with my fingers, to control oil and to ensure everything stays still. Then I use my fingers again to apply the Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer in Light Agent 06 all over the face in a thin layer. I find it smooths out my pores (because NARS Sheer Glow tends to settle for me) and it has a slight iridescence that makes my skin look glowing and perfected. It also has SPF 20, so I use it in place of a sunscreen. Next up is foundation, NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in Light 4 Deauville, and I apply just a thin layer using my fingers to really work it into the skin. If I’m especially red, I can easily build up the coverage which is why I’ve been loving this foundation. Then I use the Covergirl & Olay Simply Ageless Eye Concealer in 210 Light under my eyes to brighten, and if I need it I also use this on my spots. To lock everything in place, I love the Makeup Forever HD High Definition Powder, which is a translucent powder which never looks cakey and doesn’t add additional coverage. I use the Real Techniques Contour Brush to apply this under my eyes, around the nose and anywhere else I get a little oily.
I do have to use blotting sheets through the day and I usually bring my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Transparent in my bag or backpack for just in case touch ups.
I thought I would try something different by making a .gif, but I haven’t *quite* figured out how to do it well… It seemed like a fun idea though!
What are your current favourite base products? Are there any things I should try as alternatives to these?
