Playing with bright, bold makeup is such a meditative experience for me. I feel like my mind goes blank, I simply focus on the moment – blending, combining, exploring, creating. It’s therapeutic. On Thursday afternoon, instead of worrying about heading back to work on Friday morning, I sat down with a bunch of makeup, without a plan and just went for it. The final result was this bright pink and gold look – and I love the final look!
This look is all about the eyes
I love that it reads as hot pink on first glance, but then you notice the subtle gold accents. I’ve never done anything quite like this before – the graphic outer edge gold liner is a new technique to me. It’s balanced with a bright inner corner, featuring gold liner on the lower lash line. I’m not even sure that I’ve ever used this colour combination before, but the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance (review here) palette definitely inspired on this one, and I’ve incorporated 2 of the shades from the palette in this look. I’ve used a lot more items in my collection to create dimension and interest in the look. I did think this would look great with a hot pink, pale nude or even bright purple, but opted for a my lips but better type shade.
Creating the eye look
A halo eye always lends itself to looking like a very intricate technique. But it’s not! In fact, it only required 4 shadows, but blending and layering are crucial here! On the inner and outer parts of both the lid and lower lash line, I used Love Letter from the Modern Renaissance Palette, and then in the centre of the lid and lower lash line went in with Savage from the Urban Decay Electric Palette (review here). I topped the hot pink with Primavera from the Modern Renaissance Palette but craved more shimmer, so went in with Colourpop SSS in Crimper which really amped the contrast up, without changing the overall tone of the look. I used that combo on the inner corner as well, to really open up my eyes! Seeing that gold on the pink made me want to incorporate more! Without being too predictable I opted for this graphic outer corner and lower inner corner combo using NYX Glam Liner Aqua Luxe in Glam 24 Karat. Lastly, I went in with Colourpop Creme Gel Liner in Boots for a hot pink in the waterline.
The finishing touches
The MLBB lip combo I used is 2 of my favourite new beauty releases of this year! I lined my lips using Bite Beauty The Lip Pencil in 020 (review here) & Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipstick in 02 Perfect Match (review on the line here). I’ve love both of these products, they perform well together, both in terms of longevity and colour match. I haven’t gotten near enough use out of them as I would like, as I am quite focused on my panning projects, but that’s for another post! A swipe of blush using Essence Silky Touch Blush in Sweetheart and highlight on the nose and Cupid’s bow using Colourpop SSS in Crimper tie the look together.
Check out that lash band though… I’m still (very slowly) learning and understanding lashes. I apologize – but this is real life!
I can’t believe that I haven’t posted a full face look in A LONG time! It’s quite bad of me actually, the last creative makeup look you would have seen here was a NYE inspo look… Yikes! But I’m going to resurrect these posts, I love them and I know you guys do too! No more sunsets at 5 and too-cold-to-blend fingers! I want to challenge myself to post experimental looks at least twice a month, what do you think about that?!
