I often hear that one of the biggest barriers to entry to going cruelty free is the cost. When in fact, there are SO many inexpensive cruelty free options available at the drugstore and online. Cruelty-free options can be very accessible and affordable! Today, I’m going to touch on a few of my personal favourite cruelty-free products under $10. Of course, I love a lot more products that are inexpensive but today I wanted to talk about some of my absolute faves!

After seeing endless hype for the Wet n Wild PhotoFocus Foundation, I needed to give it a try for myself! This liquid foundation retails for just $8CAD (just $5.99 for my US friends) and is getting so many amazing reviews comparing it to higher-end formulas. So, how could I not be intrigued?

The claims

Weirdly enough, this product doesn’t claim much at all. Both the packaging and the Wet n Wild website talk about how it performs under lighting conditions. Basically, this is said to give you camera-ready skin and reduce the white cast caused by photography. Strange claims. There is nothing about coverage, longevity, skin concerns. This was pretty weird to me when I started seriously looking into the product, but for $8 it was worth trying out on my own. I do love that Wet n Wild offers this in 20 shades, which is a great selection! The range does seem to be lacking in selection for darker skin tones, however.

The new Matt Matt Matt lipstick formula from Essence has just released and it’s a good one! With a selection of 8 shades in this new launch, there is something to suit everyone’s matte lipstick needs! And at $4.49CAD each, these suit every budget too! You honestly can’t go wrong with this new product launch.

Now that I’m here writing up this post, I really wish I would have just picked up the last shade to finish off the collection! But oh well, 7 of 8 is plenty to give my full thoughts, you get the point, right? I’ve been wearing this formula exclusively for the past week and so I have lots to say about them. Let’s just hop right in!

The dropper and bottle for the NYX Total Control Foundation

This buildable foundation formula has intrigued me since it was released nearing the end of 2016. NYX Total Control Drop Foundation claims to be your ideal coverage – just use as many drops as you want to create your custom coverage! It’s totally customizable – create a sheer or full coverage base with it’s dropper system that lets you control exactly how much you want to use! For just $16 CAD, it’s claims sounded pretty remarkable. Last week, I decided to make a trip to the NYX store at Yorkdale Mall to get colour matched and have been wearing this foundation every day since.

Well it is no secret that I am obsessed with the formula of NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. Nope, it is not a secret at all. I have written about them here many times, posted about them on my instagram and even mentioned them in my current faves video a few weeks ago!
About 2 weeks ago I found myself wandering through a new Shopper’s Drug Mart and noticed that they actually carried a larger selection of shades than the Shopper’s I frequent (yes, I go there a lot) which were a bolder and more diverse than the shades I have seen most often, so I picked up 2 new additions and I still want more, let’s be honest!
Left to right: Moscow, Ibiza, Stockholm, Milan, San Paulo
The formula is so creamy, rich and easy to work with. These lip colours set and last a long time and are very easy to reapply and layer. I seriously cannot get enough of this formula, as it’s so comfortable, yet long lasting and truly matte. The colour applies evenly (only the deep shade Moscow requires 2 layers to get full opacity) and the shades are so gorgeous. There is some serious magic in these tubes, I’m telling you! I own 5 different shades at the moment, and have my eyes on a few more which will be mine in time.
Have you tried this formula? What are your thoughts?
